On June 3, the British & Irish Lions rugby side will take the field for the first of ten games around New Zealand.
As major headline sponsor of the DHL New Zealand Lions Series 2017, this marks a thrilling addition to company’s longstanding commitment to the sport of rugby.
The DHL New Zealand Lions Series 2017 consists of ten stellar games held around the country from 3 June to 8 July when the British & Irish Lions tour New Zealand. This will include three test matches featuring the All Blacks, five games against Super Rugby sides, a clash with the New Zealand Provincial Barbarians and a match against the Māori All Blacks.
New Zealand Rugby hopes to relive the glory of the DHL New Zealand Lions Series 2005 where the All Blacks won all three test matches.
This upcoming series will see more than 20,000 international fans travel to the land of the long white cloud. Spanning 35 days and seven host cities, more than 350,000 tickets have been issued to fans across the globe.
As the Official Logistics Partner of the series, DHL will move all team and match gear around the country with passion and speed. This includes two dedicated trucks travelling more than 6,000 kilometres around New Zealand.
Commenting on the partnership, Mark Foy, Country Manager for DHL Express New Zealand, said: “DHL has a long association with rugby in New Zealand and around the world. We were naming rights sponsor for this iconic rugby series in 2005 and when the Lions visited Australia in 2013. We’re confident the country will come out in force once again when the DHL New Zealand Lions Series 2017 kicks off on June 3.”
New Zealand Rugby Chief Executive Steve Tew said global relationship with DHL recognised the massive appeal of the event. “We’re actively preparing for more than 20,000 travelling fans joining tens of thousands of Kiwis for the 10 match series, and millions more following from around the world.”
As well as a long history supporting Lions tours, DHL was the Official Logistics Partner of the Rugby World Cup 2011 and 2015 – and is also the Global Partner and Official Logistics Partner of the men’s and women’s HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series.
Beyond the global headline partnerships, DHL is Official Logistics Partner to a number of international and domestic teams, including the Irish Rugby Football Union, English club Harlequins FC and DHL Stormers in South Africa, as well as supporting the professional and grassroots game in places as far afield as Canada and Kazakhstan to Laos, Australia and Fiji.
